HR Information for New Employers

When I started the company that I own a couple of years aog, I did not really expect it to ever go very far and in fact, I thought it would just be a side project in order to get some extra money. At first, I was not putting a lot of time into it and in fact, I had a full time job at the same time. But it has grown now and I will need to hire employees soon. I have been making use of this employer HR help line to answer some of the questions that I have about being a new employer. It is definitely a bit more complex of a process to be an employer than I thought it would be. There are a lot of things that I still don’t know, and a lot of things that I probably won’t even learn.

Apparently Daimler Does Have a Sense of Humor

Being an automotive writer has its perks, but reading boring press releases isn’t one of them. There are some shining stars out there, automakers who have writers that know how to make their press releases entertaining and still informative (they’re all British, for the most part).

Unfortunately, German automakers seem to create some rather technical and cold press releases that are packed with all kinds of great information but are missing one thing: soul.

I love Daimler (you know, the guys that make Mercedes-Benz and Smart?) but their press releases are NEVER entertaining. Sometimes I wonder if the company has a sense of humor at all, and then I saw the following video. It was created for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin and features some hilarious scenes involving a C111, black and white shots, slow-motion shots, and plenty of trumped-up drama. It turns out that Mercedes-Benz has a sense of humor, even if it had to express that emotion through the help of director Danny Sangra.

Watch This Before You Buy the Mazda5

2015 Mazda5, image courtesy of Mazda

People ask me for car shopping advice all the time. One of the biggest questions I get asked is what car a person should purchase. The longer I work in the industry, the more I understand that there are pluses and minuses to any vehicle choice, and they go beyond factors that most people think about upfront.

There are few vehicles I would tell people to flat out stay away from. Most have enough redeeming qualities to make them good contenders that they should at least be considered, because the final decision usually comes down to personal preferences.

One of the vehicles I make an exception on is the Mazda5. People try to push the model as a great alternative to the “over-bloated” minivans on the market today, which supposedly take up too much space. As a minivan owner, I have to disagree, considering that my vehicle economizes space much better than any crossover or SUV out there. While the Mazda5 is smaller, it does feel pretty big inside, considering its more compact footprint. Even though it’s too small for my family, I can see where the attraction comes from.

There is one huge blind spot that I can’t believe more family-oriented car shoppers don’t check out when it comes to the Mazda5: safety. Namely, the vehicle performed poorly in IIHS’ small overlap crash test. The test is designed to simulate what would happen if a vehicle struck a small obstacle such as a tree or pole with its front driver’s-side corner. The Honda Odyssey aced the test and the Toyota Sienna did well on it, but the Mazda5 bombed out. You need to see the results for yourself:

Notice that the front of the Mazda5 looks like a tiny bomb went off inside it. The driver’s door is seriously damaged and left hanging open, which is a risky business in an after-crash, or a secondary crash that involves another vehicle striking the Mazda5 after it initially wrecks out. You can even see rippling in the rear door on the driver’s side, showing that crash forces are continuing well through the occupant area of the vehicle. On top of that, the interior camera shows that the dummy’s head hit the airbag, slid off and struck the A-pillar. I’m not a medical expert, but I’m pretty sure that would result in a pretty serious injury. Most modern cars have side curtain airbags that would’ve deployed, helping prevent such a thing from happening.

Considering that minivans are typically purchased by parents who need to transport around their children, this kind of a crash test is even more shocking and disturbing than most. All parents should have the safety of their children at the top of their vehicle priority list, with their own safety and well-being not too far below. Simply put, the Mazda5 is not a suitable mode of transportation for anyone, really, but especially not for people who have young children depending on them for support.

As a side note, the small overlap crash test results for the Nissan Quest, Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan are also not pretty, so keep that in mind as you shop for a family vehicle. You should always check out the safety ratings from IIHS and NHTSA before settling on a new vehicle, just in case.

Tesla Model S P85D Versus Ferrari F12

By now everyone’s see the video of the Tesla Model S P85D spanking a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat on a dragstrip. While the win was a result of the Dodge driver’s goof, it was still historic since it set a new quarter mile world record for an electric car. The Tesla’s back at it again on the same dragstrip, this time against a Ferrari F12

The Tesla explodes off the line when it’s put into “Insane” mode, with people demonstrating that it will make an unsecured iPhone go flying back against the seats. A good jump off the line is important in a race, but top-end power is also key. This video demonstrates that the Model S P85D can indeed bleed. It’s not a dishonor to lose to the F12, which is a pretty potent vehicle. If anything, it’s impressive that the Tesla holds its own so well.

As a side note, the Ferrari sadly burned to the ground after the race, while cruising through a Florida neighborhood at 30 mph. Just kidding, but it totally could’ve happened.

BMW Drivers are Jerks!

There have been plenty of jokes over the years about what jerks BMW drivers are. I worked in real estate back in the day, and I knew quite a few of the people in the profession considered owning a Bimmer to be a sign that you had truly arrived.

Maybe it’s that sense of finally reaching the pinnacle in life that gives BMW drivers the feeling that they can do as they please. Maybe that’s what’s going on in this video when the driver decides to do something incredibly cruel instead of helping a fellow human being.

Whatever it is, the whole incident just reinforces the feeling that BMW drivers truly are jerks.

BMW Gets Back Into the Game

With the Super Bowl approaching everyone is of course getting all excited about the most important part of the game: the commercials. I”m not just saying that because my team isn’t in the showdown, but because there are many individuals who don’t even like football yet they watch just for the ads.
Well, nowadays the magic of the Internet allows us to see some of those television ads before the Super Bowl. Oh, and you can watch at least most of them afterward. BMW has returned to the lineup of advertisers after taking a four-year hiatus. The German automaker has a compelling reason to be back: to spread the good word of the all-electric i3.
I think the ad is genius (you can see it below). Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel are shown in a past clip of when they were completely clueless about what the Internet was. Then it flashes to the present as they are driving through New York in a BMW i3 as they are baffled about what the thing is. Is it a car? Why isn’t there anything under the hood? How does it go?
BMW in a single minute makes all the people who say that electric cars won’t catch on look like the backwards fools who said the Internet would never go anywhere. Give it time, the technology will catch on. Like it or not, electric powertrains are here to stay and will only get better and become more dominant.

5 Cool Customizing Accessories for Your UTV

If you’re still driving the pristine UTV you bought from the manufacturer, it’s time to shake things up with the latest in personalization and customization. Here are just a few accessories that will showcase your own unique personality with your UTV.

1. Lights

Lights are both fashionable and functional, making them a dual-purpose accessory for your UTV. Add monster truck lights to your overhead rack; put a few light bars along your frame for accent lighting; make your bumper gleam with high-powered rear lights. They’ll offer illumination and style at the same time.

2. Vinyl Decorations

Vinyl decorations are more affordable than paint and less permanent than gloss. From stickers to decals, there are many ways you can use vinyl to add a sense of personality and fun to your UTV, and what’s more, you can simply peel them off and replace them when you’re ready for something new. If you enjoy decorating your UTV but don’t want to break the bank every time you feel like changing things up, vinyl is the way to go.

3. Enclosures

Enclosures are another accessory that can be used for multiple purposes. At their core, they’re meant for protecting drivers from the elements and insulating them from bad weather, but the right kind of enclosure can also become a statement of style. Depending on the color, cut, shape, size and pattern of your enclosure, it can say many things about you as both a driver and a person.

4. Lifts

A good lift will get your UTV off the ground and prevent you from damaging the underside with mud and rocks. This is its primary purpose and the reason many drivers invest in one. However, if you’re willing to splurge a little, you can also find a lift with a funky design to make heads turn as you drive by.

5. Wheels

There’s nothing like a strong set of wheels to keep you moving through tough terrain. Depending on the way you use your UTV, you might need anything from heavy-duty tires to light, precision-turn models, but one thing is for sure: These specialty wheels won’t come from the manufacturer. You’ll need to buy them for yourself.

These are just a few accessories that will liven up your UTV. Whether you’re a rugged off-roader or a track racer looking for a new style, these UTV parts will be exactly what you need to create a one-of-a-kind vehicle.

What to consider before you become a commercial truck driver

Perhaps you have given some serious thought to becoming a commercial truck driver. If this is the case, you have chosen a profession that is very much in demand. However, there are many things you will need to think about before you hit the roads as a licensed truck driver. Do you want the security of working for a company? Do you want to go into business for yourself? There are positives and negatives to both choices. There are many trucking companies that would love to have you work for them. Which trucking company should you work for? Here are some things to consider that will help you to make that decision.

1. Flexible hours

You might want to be able to make your own schedule as you see fit. Some trucking companies do not offer much flexibility in terms of when their drivers need to work. There are also companies that let their drivers work whenever they want. However, the companies that are more lenient with their hours usually do not pay as much. The time that you are away from home will be important to you if you have a family. Therefore, you will need to do some research in order to find a trucking company that allows you to work and still be home a reasonable amount of time.

2. Competitive pay

The wages that are paid by companies in the transportation logistics industry can tend to vary widely. This is why it is in your best interests to find out exactly what certain companies are paying. You will have plenty of opportunities to make additional money if you are willing to work on holidays and other days when drivers are in short supply. Companies will give their drivers various bonuses and incentives for delivering their cargo ahead of schedule.

3. The best routes

Some trucking routes are much more difficult than others. Ideally, you should try to avoid being a truck driver in an area that regularly has very bad weather. It is very dangerous to drive in snowy or icy conditions. You should also try to avoid congested areas with a large amount of traffic. You will have to drive in areas like this occasionally. However, you should find a company that allows you to drive in rural areas where you will not need to worry about traffic jams, accidents, construction or other problems related to traffic.

6 Vital Accessories for Your UTV

Some UTV mods are just there for style. Others can play a critical role in how your vehicle functions, handles and perseveres on the road. If you’re looking for the most essential accessories you can buy for your UTV, here are six examples.

1. Lights

Lights are more than just cool things to mount on your top bar. They’ll also illuminate pathways, help you avoid obstacles and warn other drivers that you’re coming down a dark path. It’s okay to buy colored lights or bright lights for some extra personality, but make sure they’re high-quality lights first and foremost.

2. Enclosures

The right enclosure can protect you from anything. Whether it’s high speeds, icy winds, kicked-up dust or just bugs trying to fly in your face at 60mph, an enclosure will keep all the elements at bay while insulating you inside a calm cocoon.

3. Suspension Parts

UTV suspension parts are vital when it comes to tires and friction. Old, outdated suspension parts can make your UTV uncomfortable or downright unsafe to drive, so make sure you stay on top of things and always have the latest suspension technology inside your vehicle.

4. Heaters

Heaters can be a big convenience during chilly days. They can also be genuine lifesavers during unexpected blizzards or dramatic temperature drops. If you’re transporting firewood miles from civilization when the snows get so bad that you can’t see a foot in front of your face, you’ll be glad your UTV has a heater.

5. Plows

You’re still stuck in that blizzard. You have your heater, so you won’t freeze to death, but how are you going to get home? A snow plow attached to your UTV will really help you out. Best of all, it can easily attach and detach depending on the kind of weather you’re having.

6. Straps and Harnesses

Not only are they great for guests experiencing their first ride in a side-by-side, but straps, harnesses and seat belts can also protect you while you’re flying down rocky or unexplored terrain. Driving safely should be your number one concern while you’re operating your UTV.

These are just a few critical mods for your UTV. As you can see, they vary in terms of how they’re used and where they’re applied, but they’ll all make valuable additions to your side-by-side.

How to Buy the Best Trailer Hitches

If you are planning to have a summer holiday out of town, you may want to tow a vehicle with you. As you do not want any disappointments, invest in the strongest towing device available. Additionally, you will need the hitch for many uses after your holiday outing. For example, you may need to pull a friend’s broken car and save him from trouble.

When reviewing the types of trailer hitches that you should install, it is importantto compare the maximum weight ratings that your hitch, hitch ball, and ball mount can hold. This way, you avoid overloading your tow vehicle and overworking the whole towing mechanism.

With a heavy-duty hitch, there is virtually nowhere you cannot take your tow vehicle. For example, you can tow your jet ski to the sea in preparation for an exciting session of water sports. Alternatively, tow your vehicle as it carries the camping apparel for your entire family into the woods.

Buying the best hitch

One of the most important things that you must consider before buying a trailer hitch is the maximum towing weight of your trailer. If you are a real motor vehicle enthusiast, you should know this value by heart. However, beginners can find this value from the manual. Alternatively, contact your dealership.

The other thing you need to do is to invest in the right tow equipment. To know the right equipment for purchasing, ensure you have the right tongue weight and gross trailer weight. When you approach a trailer hitch dealer with this information, the sales representatives should hook you up with the right gadgets.

Hitch specifications

Generally, you have five classes of trailer hitches to choose from. Since each class must go with its corresponding trailer weight, it is important to get all the specifications right. For example, ensure the trailer hitch you buy has a weight rating higher than the weight that your trailer should tow.

Other factors that determine the class of hitch to buy are hitch attachment and tow vehicle capacity even if you do not want to match this capacity. While Class I hitches are rated up to 2000 lbs, Class II hitches are rated up to 3500 lbs.

Class III and Class IV are higher rated at 6,000lbs and 10,000 lbs respectively. Evidently, you cannot afford to load a heavy tow vehicle on a trailer that uses an inferior class of trailer hitch. The prices of these hitches range from one manufacturer to another. However, the more the rating, the more expensive a trailer hitch usually is.

Types of trailer hitches

A Bolton trailer hitch is a common hitch where it is secured permanently under the trailer. This way, there is a direct connection between the trailer and the vehicle tow. You can buy a custom trailer hitch that is specially designed for the particular make, model, and year of your car.

Other types include fifth wheel hitch, fixed tongue hitch, gooseneck hitch, pinch hitch, pintle hitch, receiver style hitch, round tube hitch, weight carrying hitch, and original equipment manufacturer parts, among others. Contact the leading dealer to understand fine details of trailer hitches.

Car Maintenance: How Hybrid Cars Differ from Non-Hybrid Cars

Hybrid cars have been popular in the US since 1999 and up to this day, there still are lots of people who prefer hybrid cars over normal cars. Apart from having more than one engine, there are many other things that set hybrid cars apart from regular ones. One of these is their maintenance.

Essentially, hybrid cars are more durable and reliable than regular cars and their maintenance are actually cheaper especially the modern ones. Specifically, here are some ways hybrid car maintenance are different from regular car maintenance.

No Need to Change Oil Frequently

If you are currently eyeing a hybrid car, this may be the perfect time to buy one since it is very easy and cheap to maintain. For one, you don’t need to change your oil every now and then. This is because its engine is not likely to wear and fail due to its electric motor, which gives the gasoline engine a break. Thus, you will not only save oil but you will also save on labor, time, and effort. Using a hybrid car is very practical and in fact, you can go to a certain place from a hundred to thousands of miles with only few oil changes. However, this will depend on how you drive and manage your car.

No Ongoing Maintenance for Hybrid System

You may worry about your car’s hybrid system. Luckily, there is nothing much to worry about maintaining your hybrid system since its components do not need continuous maintenance. Unlike non-hybrid cars in which system failure is common, hybrid cars guarantee an easy maintenance and safe usage when it comes to its system. What’s more, hybrid cars have warranties for hybrid system that are much longer than what non-hybrid cars offer. Often, the warranties last for about 8 to 10 years.

No Trip to the Car Dealership

Though your hybrid system does not require special maintenance, you may somehow need to replace your car battery. In this case, the first thing that will come to your mind is to take it back to the dealership. However, you have to remember that your car is a hybrid car and has lots of components that you are not knowledgeable about. While bringing it to the dealership is an immediate option, you still have other options that you can consider. You may take your car to a hybrid service center to make sure that your car will be in good hands.

The Pros and Cons of 0% APR Deals in Mississauga

Car Manufacturers celebrate these 0% APR deals all year long in Mississauga. Especially around the holidays, these familiar advertisements aim to get people in the door of their local dealership and spending their money. No APR seems too good to be true, which raises the question in many people’s heads: are these deals for real?

While these deals are legitimate offers, there are some shady dealerships who will advertise 0% APR financing options, without actually having that option available. Instead, they get you a higher price, so that the interest they would normally get is absorbed into the cost of the vehicle itself. Thrifty right? Luckily, it is easy to separate these fake 0% APR deals, from the legitimate ones.

Visit This Website for car loans for bad credit and no money down.

Here are some tactics to differentiate between a real 0% APR offering, and a fake one:

  • Ask for the total price of the vehicle before and after the 0% APR; the price should not change if the deal is legitimate
  • Check the manufacturer’s website to see if they have a 0% APR promotion currently running
  • Call the car manufacturer’s financing department; if they did not authorize it, it’s not real

A true zero APR offer is offered exclusively through the manufacturing company. Typically, they run these deals when they want to see a sales increase. They do not mind getting less for the car because they can make the difference back when you bring your car into one of their service centers.

This may have you looking twice anytime you hear the words “zero APR,” which may be a good thing in the end. However, it is equally important to also remember the upside to these deals. After all, you pay less for the vehicle! These are incredibly beneficial deals, for those who qualify, and are worth taking advantage of if the opportunity arises.

Common misconceptions about online renewal of car insurance

The larger mass of people is running away from the online facility to renew their policy and larger number is from an old age group who find computer and internet very discrete. The researchers and policy makers have found many reasons for which they hold back from the online facility, because there are many misconceptions about the current online technique in the minds of the users. It is a need of time to let them know about their misconceptions and break those so that it is easy for that larger mass to go forward.

We can give highlights about the following main points which cause the customer to stay away from the online car insurance renewal. In the form of misconceptions the users have doubts over reliability, authenticity and geographical constraints the doubts over these can be removed by a little more knowledge.

The users tend to think that the respective online source is not authentic, recently there have been many cases where over policy the customers were looted and cheated and hence the customers have become more careful where there is a chance of little doubt. The authenticity of these websites even though doubted by the customers, in reality the customers need not worry so much as all these company online portals are licensed by IRDA which is a regulatory body for insurances by the government of India. Now on the online portals of insurance companies and different broker websites are having this license and which can be shown to customer. The responsibility ultimately lies to IRDA and hence government and hence all these online portals could well be said to be authentic.

Next misconception is about the reliability of the online portal, often user thinks that the online sources and portals are not secure enough to process their payments, when the cash flow is not involved user is always a little on the back foot about the security reasons. But each of these websites needs to give quality to the customer and hence they do require going for high global security standards compliance. Overall all the websites comply with these security standards. Hence the user may be well assured of the reliability of these sources.

Third very important misconception that should be removed from mind of the user the geographical situation of the company and the user, users usually think that if the insurance company is far from the user, the documents would take unnecessary longer time to process. But which is actually not the case as all the concerned company offices are connected via internet, and even if you fill all your forms at certain place, they require minimum required time only to process and generate receipts irrespective of where the office is geographically.

These are some of the misconception which are required to be removed from the customer minds, so that the larger group of ignorant customers turn to the online version of the car insurance and start renewing their policies online. Misconception breaking is necessary for a customer for the online work.

What Are The Benefits Of Using Strobe Lights & Beacons?

You may have any kind of emergency vehicle. You’ll always find that there are many benefits of using emergency beacons or strobe lights in some situations. You can use these lights in a wide range of settings and situations. Their primary goal is to grab the attention of other drivers and pedestrians so that they could be cautious and slow down.

Using Strobe Lights & Sound Alarms

Most of the time emergency beacons and strobes are used along with sirens or other loud noise systems for enhanced effectiveness. This will allow other drivers to hear the alarm even when they are unable to view the emergency vehicle. And once they have seen the lights, they’ll be able to know what they need to do to provide space to the emergency vehicle, worksite or the area of incidence.

Strobe lights and beacons are commonly used by the following types of emergency vehicles:

  • Police vehicles
  • Ambulances
  • Fire trucks
  • Other vehicles/equipments used in construction sites or emergency situations

These lights are part integral parts of situations where there is an emergency or where the situation is hazardous.

You may need to conduct respond to a medical situation or redirect traffic due to some accident. All these situations will require the use of effective strobe lights.

Beacons & Strobe Lights for Non-Emergency Situations

As already mentioned, strobe and beacon lights are used not just for firefighting and police vehicles, they can also be used in other normal situations. They are commonly used in situations where tow trucks and construction trucks and equipment are used. For example, if there is a construction work on the road, these flashing lights will be required to alert drivers to maintain their distance or leave the lane.

When installing these Peterson Lights on your vehicle or using them anywhere else, make sure that you know the relevant regulations and protocols. There are specific rules for regulating how these lights are installed and used. Usually, the red/blue flashing lights are restricted from use until you are a police unit. Most of the time, yellow and orange colors are used for construction sites, construction and tow vehicles, and even emergency situations.

Strobe lights and beacons can work as great help for anyone who has to keep traffic and people away for safety reasons. They can help in further reducing the chances of any incidents by informing everyone around to stay off the place.

Mustang Compatible Spare Parts Outperform The Original Spares

The mustang is a compact sports car manufactured by the American automobile giants, Ford.  Currently in its 6th generation the mustang is car worth having. Mustang was first in 1962 as a two-seater which evolved into a four seater by the year 1963. Today it is the first “pony car” created and is characterised by its coupes which are like sports cars but have a long hood with rear decks which are short.

New features of 6th generation mustang

The 6th generation Mustang is an expensive car with many transformations, developments and improvements incorporated in it. Some of the new features of Mustang are:

  • The body of the car was widened and lowered and a trapezoidal grille was incorporated in it.
  • New colours of the car were incorporated.
  • Passenger volume was increased
  • Three engine options are available with a six speed automatic or manual transmission with paddle shifters.
  • An independent rear suspension or IRS system has been specifically developed for this new series.
  • It was made available in both right hand and left hand drives.

It was also the first series to have a global launch and is also marketed globally to capture the world market. Even though spare parts are available with the company, there are a lot of other companies like LED Foot racing which deals in spare parts like Aluminium Champion radiators, which are equally good and fit easily into the car.

Advantages of using Aluminium Champion Radiators

These radiators made of Aluminium come with the Champion lifetime limited warranty and are

  • Definitely more affordable in comparison to an original Ford spare radiator and
  • More easily available and comes with additional benefits like
    • They are lighter and thinner than the brass radiators.
    • It enables better cooling since aluminium is a better dissipater of heat.
    • Seams are welded and these radiators also use brazed core technology which yields even better results than the original spare part.
    • They are three-row radiators unlike the 2 row radiators provided by the manufacturers.
    • Material used is 100% aluminium which is of the highest standards available today.
    • It uses the car’s original fan shrouds and mounts to fit-in these radiators thereby enabling easy installation with absolutely minute or no modifications.
    • They are manufactured at facilities which are ISO certified so that no compromises are made on the output and performance of the same.

Irrespective of whether the spare part used is manufactured by Ford or LED Foot racing, they are very popular as they offer a less costly yet very effective option for Mustang cars.

Benefits Of Using Bollard Protection & Other Types Of Parking Protection

Parking lots need a wide range of accessories for effective management of their parking spaces. Some of the most important things include parking spot protection, bollards, and column and wall protections. These accessories will help in protecting both the vehicles and the parking area/property. They will also help enhance the efficiency of how the parking spots are allocated.

Why Security Bollards

Parking vehicles outside the allocated spots can cause many different consequences. It can prevent emergency vehicles from gaining proper access to, block driveways, and it could also mean that others may park their vehicles in others’ space. Security bollards can help in preventing or minimizing these risks.

Bollards can also serve as protection and can be installed to withstand high-impact vehicle collisions. It is also easy and cost effective to maintain them. They can be installed in sensitive locations such as entrances to buildings, pedestrian areas etc. to prevent cars from hurting people and ramming into buildings.

Some can retract fully into the ground and can be protected using a metal lid cover. It will then provide a flat and durable surface for traffic to move safely, and then the bollard can be put back up when needed again.

Wall & Column Protection

These are also important additions to different types of parking environments. The main benefits of wall and column protections are as following:

  • They help in protecting damage to vehicles and buildings.
  • Wall guards help protect walls, columns, and corners in residential, commercial and industrial environments.
  • Wall protectors can be used in garages for keeping the walls safe and prevent costly repairs.
  • These accessories can help in absorbing, minimizing and deflecting wear and abrasion.
  • New building materials are designed to be lighter, which makes them more susceptible to damages from traffic. These accessories can help in minimizing or eliminating the damages.

Preventing Expensive Damages

Whether you have a large commercial parking zone or your own parking lot or any other parking space, structural damages can be quite expensive to repair.  Even if the damage is minor, it is going to affect the overall image of the parking area.

Areas where there is a high risk of head-on impact, you should protect them with steel barriers. If the area is susceptible to blows that could cause cosmetic damages, consider rubber based parking spot protection, bollard protection or wall and column protection.

So if you are in charge of a parking area, make sure to use the right accessories to make it a safe place for everyone. You can find information on all types of accessories on .

Even though the Toyota line of cars now is well known for their safety features they have no intention of standing still on the impressive safety features that they already have in the workings, but are striving to continue to improve these. It is most interesting to look back over the 75 years of Toyota to see where they started and where they came from and where they are at today.

They still maintain the five main principles of Toyoda. These are (1)always being faithful to your duties and contributing to the overall good of the company. (2)Always being studious and creative and striving to stay ahead of the times. (3)To always be practical and avoid being frivolous. (4)To strive to build a homey atmosphere in the workplace that is warm and friendly. (5)To remember to be grateful at all times and have respect for spiritual matters. These five principles came into being in October 30, 1935 and have been handed down to every Toyota group company and are the mandate and mainstay that serve as the conduct guidelines for all employees.

One would think that with a company that is as huge as Toyota that their mandate would be far more gruelling and demanding when it comes to their employee expectations. Yet the five main principles are simple, dynamic, and powerful, and no doubt are the foundation that has led them into their great success. Saving that Money on that Winter Heat

“Uh oh, look at the calendar – sure enough the cold wintery months are coming up and there’s nothing you or anyone you cherish can do about it. So when you notice both your breath and your heating bills go up, you start out to panic and wonder if there’s anything that can be done. The good news is that yes indeed there are some things you could do to minimize the horror of these awful times. You can either proceed to LA or suck it up and discover how to better hunker down for that winter. Here are some great tips on saving money during the winter months that can make spring a lot more welcome.

Close off the Basement

You know that dark and cold basement you have that you simply wish wasn’t such a money pit? Every time you open that door to the basement, the frosty and icy winds from below waft in and cool your entire house down another 10 degrees and that just means more work with your already overworked furnace. Maybe it’s a good idea to just bite the bullet and shut down the basement for that winter. Seal it off with plastic and tape so that no person can go down there for any reason. Like laundry, move them up into the other room upstairs for the winter, if you have things down there that you have to access. Doing this you keep your heat where it belongs: in your home.

Burn and Burn Some Other

Great – if you don’t, you can get a wood burning stove and an exhaust chimney for your personal window, when you have a fire place in your house. The thing about these things is that you may burn wood to stay warm – and you could either get wood for cheap or you can try to get it free of charge, which is even cheaper than cheap! You can rent a van and go around loading up on every one of the extra wood people have lying around, or if perhaps you look online on craigslist or that type of place, people also have wood that exist if you just come and pick it up. If you plan it even a little, the cost of a van rental from a place like AvonRents is more than offset by the savings of burning some of that free wood to stay cozy and warm.

Extra Layers

Then there’s the advice that your particular dad gave you if you were being raised: just put on a sweater. It’s true! But you can’t just place on a sweater- the best way to staying warm in a chilly property is through utilization of a hat, preferably some kind of big fuzzy hat. When you wear a winter hat indoors, you may stay much warmer, along with your toes can even be noticeably warmer even if you’re wearing just a new hat., you lose your main heat through the top of your mind, so”

Some Great Gift Ideas That Can Help You Be the Favorite Family Member

“Christmas is coming up and that means so too is the never ending quest to get something so awesome for everyone that they love you most of all. Winning the love of your family members can be difficult but it doesn’t have to be. It’s worth giving some forethought and really making sure that you do the work ahead of time to make those gifts extra thoughtful and special. You will not want to wake up the morning of the 25th and think, oh no, I have to hit the store – because most stores are closed and besides that’s eggnog and rum time, not shopping time. So before you despair and think that your older brother is once again going to come away from Christmas with the adoration of the whole family, here are some things you can do to win Christmas.

A New Pet

Some people might think that getting a pet for a loved one is too much of an assumption of that loved one’s ability and desire to care for another living thing, but as soon as those cute infant baby animal eyes peek out of the box (make sure to wrap the animal pretty soon to its opening and don’t leave it under the tree overnight), that cold and heartless family member will indeed appreciate the thoughtful gift of love and companionship that is a new baby cat or dog or mouse or guinea pig. You can either let the family member name the animal or come up with a funny name yourself and present him or her as such. Not only will it be a great gift, but the rest of the holiday celebration will be filled with this very loving little creature that everyone will adore.

A New Car

You can also always trump everyone for ever for all time by getting someone a new car. Think about it – a new car these days isn’t that much money, especially if you hit up the Nissan dealer Fontana or another place like that gives not only good low prices on new cars but also offers great monthly financing options. You can actually make a new car for a family member a part of your monthly budget so you will hardly even notice that you’re paying for it and that new car will treat your loved one so well for the whole year that you never know what they’ll think to get you next year. We’re not saying get the new car simply because it means better presents in the future, but we’re not saying that would hurt either. Check out cars for your family members online at

A New Cuisinart

Then you can always go the path of kitchen appliances, and a chopping and dicing machine like a Cuisinart food processor is a great idea that everyone would be happy with. So many options, so much food to process, it’s going to be a yummy year in the new year to be sure.

Day Trips from London

Whether you are visiting London, live in London full-time, or are in a study abroad programme, there is so much to see and do. For example, you can visit the British Museum, ride the London Eye, and climb Big Ben with special permission. There are times, however, when you may want to escape the hustle of the city. For those special times, having a car is almost mandatory. Regardless of whether you currently own a car that is not reliable or have no car at all, day trips are even better when you rent a car.

If you rent a car in London, you can easily go to Oxford. Called the city of dreaming spires, this beautiful city of 159,000 is easily accessible by automobile from London. Once you arrive, you can explore the University of Oxford, which is not only one of the most respected universities in the world but also one of the oldest. The city centre offers so many unique opportunities like ice skating, visiting the largest single room dedicated to book sales, and exploring one of the city’s twenty-eight nature reserves. When you rent a car, you can easily get around this city that has so many different opportunities.

Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral

Visiting Stonehenge tops many people’s list and car hire lets you get there with ease. No one knows for sure exactly who built it or even why people built it. While this site is on many people’s lists of must-visit sites, archaeologists are just starting to discover that the monument is located very near one of the oldest settlements in England. Visitors can see burial chambers, along with Silbury Hill, which is a 130-foot-tall mound of chalk, and many other circular structures. Despite all there is to see, it will not take a whole day, so those with a car can easily continue a short distance to see Salisbury Cathedral which has been declared by many to be the single most beautiful structure in England. At the cathedral, you can see Great Britain’s tallest spire, the oldest working clock in Europe, and one of the best-preserved copies of the original Magna Carta 1215, because when you hire a car in London, you get to choose your own itinerary.

The City of Bath

The city of Bath makes a wonderful day trip from London when you rent a car, as it is located just 156 kilometres to the west. People have been flocking to the baths since before the first century ever started. As you travel around the city at your own leisurely pace because you have your own transportation, you can see marvellous examples of all England’s architectural periods. Stay in the evening and enjoy a performance at one of Bath’s five theatres. Plan your trip, and you can take in one of the city’s magnificent festivals like the Bath Chilli Festival, the Bath Film Festival. Since when you rent a car you can do what you want, then you can even choose to spend the night at one of over 300 accommodations in the city.

There are many areas just outside of London that are almost impossible to visit without a car. One of those areas is the Cotswolds that was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for its old growth beech woodlands and its rare limestone grassland habitats. Many different flora and faunas exist only in this area, so renting your own private car allows you to explore the region at your leisure. One of most delightful things you may see on a trip to the Cotswolds is the Duke of Burgundy with its beautiful chequered pattern. If you love to shop, particularly for antiques and for bric-a-brac, then make sure to stop in Tetbury. Cotswolds has several unique buildings that seem to rise out of the landscape without any notice, including Quarwood, a Victorian Gothic house, Woodchester Mansion, a Gothic revival mansion house, and Newark Park, a Tudor country home. Since much of the area is extremely remote, however, it is not wise to head into the area without a reliable car, so if you need a more reliable auto, rent one before making this day trip.

Lake District

The Lake District with its luxurious homes makes a great drive to escape the crowds in London. Take a scenic cruise on Lake Windermere, England’s largest natural lake. Step back in time by visiting the Windermere Steamboat Museum that houses many historic vessels. Enjoy tea at Lindeth Howe, visit the World of Beatrix Potter, play golf at the Windermere Golf Club, or hike the mountains in the Lake District National Park. When you are driving the rental car that you conveniently picked up in London, you can decide, on the spur of the moment, what you want to do or plan months in advance based on your personal interests.

A chance to visit Liverpool becomes possible when you rent a car, and once you arrive, there is so much to do in this city that never seems to sleep. Outside of London, Liverpool has the largest number of museums in England, including the World Museum, Maritime Museum, and Walker Art Gallery. Take in a football game or stroll along Albert Dock. If you are a Beatle’s fan, then taking the Magical Mystery Tour and touring Mendips and 20 Forthlin Road gives you a wonderful adventure into Lennon and McCartney’s lives.

Regardless of what you want to do, renting a car in London allows you to explore so much beyond the city’s boundaries. You can travel at your own leisurely pace, planning your own schedule as you go or planning it months in advance. If you are travelling to London, it is easy to travel there and check so many places off your to-do list with just one trip when you rent a car. The Elusive North Dakota

“You probably remember enduring long car rides when you were a kid that might take you hours away from home or even thousands of miles over the course of days or weeks. When you spend that much time in the car as a kid you need to be able to do things to help you pass the time. Car games were always a good way to occupy your time since this was the time before things like smartphones, portable DVD players in cars and handheld video games. One of the classic favorites has always been to play the License Plate Game and to this day it remains a classic pastime that can hold the interest of the whole family.

Each family seems to have its own rules when it comes to playing, so there is no real hard and fast right way or wrong way to play the game. The basics of the game itself are quite simple. You want to try to find as many different license plates from the different states as possible. For the car ride itself it often helps to print out a list of the fifty states for each person so that they can mark them off as they see one from each state. The driver should be excluded from this activity since he or she should be paying attention to the road instead of the license plates of each car and truck.

Smiling happy family and a family car

Smiling happy family and a family car

The game works well if you know you are going to be covering a wide area and in the car for a long time, making it more likely that you will see a greater array of license plates. For a car ride that might only be about an hour away you may not see much of a variation but if you are in the car for hours or days crossing part of the country you can really broaden the spectrum. You can even put a different point scoring system in place so you get higher points for states that are further away or not often seen, such as Alaska, Hawaii, North Dakota or Idaho. Seeing one of those states can score you five or ten points instead of just one for more popular ones or those nearby.
The game makes you pay more attention to your surroundings and where you are and there are even some strategies you might try to employ to give yourself an edge in the game. Keep your eye out for large semis and eighteen-wheel trucks. These trucks tend to have different license plates then what you might normally see so you can pick up some states that you might have a hard time spotting in some areas. The same can be said about watching for rental trucks since they often have different plates as well.
While some kids may not find it as much fun as playing their handheld games or listening to music on their devices, there are still a lot of kids and adults that enjoy playing the License Plate game.

Since you normally play on a long car ride, it helps to be sure that you have a reliable and safe car to take on a trip like this. If your car may be worse for wear it might be time for you to think about upgrading before your next big trip. You can find some great fullerton used cars when you look at that are perfect for your drive and at a great price. Do not forget to count points for your own new license plate as you hit the road for your trip!

Get a Smooth Start with a High End Car Starter Motor

starteralternatorsA powerful electric motor that gives the car engine its initial impulse is what precisely a starter motor is. To crank up a carstarter motor a very high electric current is required. This is the reason why a starter motor is attached to the battery of the car with large cables. When the ignition key is turned to the start position the battery voltage goes through a circuit to energize the starter motor. Without proper current a starter motor will never function properly. This is the reason why I planned on getting the motor of my car replaced. Since I had to service my entire car I decided to start with the most basic part of any car. I realized it was very important to tend to any ignition related problems before it gets worse. The only resolution left in the end is to replace the entire part.

The main problem that I was facing with my starter motor was that it was not turning fast enough which was a major problem. I tried to figure out if the problem was with the battery of my car or with the motor itself. It turned out the motor itself needed replacement. Engines are the backbone of any automobile or vehicle. They are the feedback systems which once started depended on the inertia from each cycle to initiate the next cycle. In order to start the first cycle of the engine’s run session the first two strokes must be powered in some other way. The starter motor is used for the purpose of getting the engine started and is not required once the system starts running.

The electric starter motor is the most common kind of motor that is used in gasoline engines and small diesel engines. Starter motors have very high torque and can almost always move the vehicle when it is left unaided. Once my car was stranded on a railway level crossing and the engine was not firing. I solved this problem by putting the car into gear and drove it to some place safe. You must always remember how resourceful car starter motors can be in situations such as this one. If you are ever stuck in a dangerous place and your car is singlehandedly standing you can always put the car into gear and drive it to a safer place.

Since I was getting my whole car serviced I thought of installing a new alternator for my car as well. An alternator is a very important fraction of any vehicle. They are a part of any modern vehicle that you come across these days. It is used to charge the batteries and to power the electrical system when the engine is running. An alternator has many advantages over a direct current generator. They are lighter in weight, cheaper and more rugged. There are brushes present in an alternator which carries a small fraction of the current which in turn carries the generator’s entire output. It helps the starter motor function too.

Apparently Driving an Electric Car is Good For Your Health

It might seem odd, but there is some unscientific (read: anecdotal) evidence that suggests driving an electric car is beneficial to one’s health. It doesn’t have to do with EV owners eating more kale or other so-called “superfoods.” Instead, it’s a horrible habit that’s cut out from their usual routine.

If you own a car with an internal combustion engine, you must stop periodically at a gas station. While I just gas up my car and go, plenty of people amble into the little shop and buy different things. The last time I actually went inside a gas station the array of “food” and other consumables was… interesting.

There are electric car owners who have reported that since they no longer stop at gas stations they have actually quit smoking. With cigarettes sold in few other places, and gas stations pushing them like crazy, that’s pretty believable. I’m sure their consumption of MSG and processed sugars has also gone down.

So there you go, yet another reason to go with an electric car.

BMW Drivers Are Jerks

BMW M 135i Concept. Photo courtesy of BMW.

What’s the difference between a porcupine and a BMW? The pricks are inside the car.

There are plenty of stereotypes, even in the world of cars. One of the biggest is that BMW drivers are all jerks. There is even science to back up the claim, at least according to a couple of studies.

Let me be clear: I like at least some BMW models. Notice that I said some, because many of the self-consumed jerk BMW owners only look at one thing: the badge on the hood. There have been some stinker cars made by the Bavarians, and lately a sleuth of tepid models.

Once, when I was in college, I almost bought an old BMW. It was a 540i from back when the 5 Series was a solid car and it would have served me well. The only reason I didn’t buy it, other than that I didn’t want a car payment, was that I knew it would’ve attracted the wrong kind of attention. It’s sad but true, because a BMW says something to most people that I would rather not associate myself with.

Some of you might be offended right now because your incredible uncle who does charity work in Zimbabwe twice a year happens to drive a Bimmer, and he’s certainly no jerk. As with all stereotypes, there certainly are exceptions. Some of the nicest people I’ve ever know happen to own a BMW. The sad truth is that too many who own the vehicles are rude and overly-aggressive.

Just today I was driving down a fairly busy street. About a block and a half away, a woman crossed the street because there was a break in the traffic. The BMW in front of me gunned it and nearly ran the woman down, missing her by mere inches. It’s things like what that person did that feeds the stereotype.

Am I saying I would never buy a BMW? No, I’ve thought about it many times. But in the end I would know that driving such a car would mean I would constantly be having to battle the stereotype, and that can get old after a while.

Mercedes Changes Things Up

GLK-Class. Photo courtesy of Daimler.

If you have the growing array of Mercedes vehicles memorized, like the M-Class, GL-Class, C-Class, SLK-Class, etc. you are going to have to relearn everything. Mercedes is redoing how it assigns model names, similar to how Infiniti restructured its nomenclature not that long ago.

I suppose if you have the current models down, the new nomenclature won’t be that hard to learn. The A-, B-, C-, E-, and S-Classes will keep their current names, but pretty much everything is being restructured.

What you call the SUVs and SLK will be changing. So get ready to take some notes.

All SUV model names will start with “GL” and then will be followed by a single letter that is the same as the core car classes (A,B,C,E, and S). That means the current GLK will be the GLC and the M-Class will be called the GLE. The current GL will be called the GLS. Apparently the G-Class, which is lovingly called the G-Wagen by some, will stay the G-Class.

As for the SLK roadster, it will be called the SLC, which sounds much more attractive. The CLA and CLS names will stay the same, even though the CLS is based on the same platform as the E-Class and not the S-Class.

Another big component of the change is new small letters at the end of each model name to denote special drivetrains. For example, “c” will stand for natural gas, “d” for diesel, “e” for electric, “f” for fuel cell, and “h” for hybrid. This will make the names of some models considerably shorter and easier to remember and understand. I say the change is a big win for everyone.

When the new M-Class rolls out, it will be the first vehicle to wear the new badges, so it will be the GLE. A coupe version of the SUV will also launch and will be called the GLE Coupe.

Of course, AMG will continue on. The Maybach name will be making a comeback, and like the AMG models will be applied to top-of-the-line versions of core vehicles.

Is the S-Class a Women’s Car?

2014 S-Class. Photos courtesy of Mercedes-Benz.

For quite some time now there have been people inside and even out of the automotive industry who have labeled some cars as being for women. Maybe those models aren’t made exclusively for female drivers, but they are viewed as catering to that portion of the populace more.

It used to be that such a label was loathed by automakers and enthusiasts. In this day and age of advanced marketing analysis, we have learned that there are indeed some vehicles that appeal more to one sex than the other. Among the vehicles that boast the largest percentage of female owners are examples like the Nissan Juke, Toyota Rav4 and Hyundai Tucson.

Of course, those models are fine and all, but they aren’t exactly what dreams are made of. They pale in comparison to the Mercedes S-Class, which recently was named as the Women’s World Car of the Year for 2014. Female automotive journalists from five different continents determined the winner of the award. It also apparently captured the luxury car category with unanimous votes.

In case you didn’t know, the 2014 S-Class comes with features that redefine luxury, and not in the cliche sort of way you hear about in car commercials. While there are Kias and Hyundais with heated and cooled leather seats these days, Mercedes has upped its game by offering things like hot stone massaging seats, a scent diffuser, and a suspension that senses rough spots in the road before the car reaches them, making adjustments so that ride comfort is preserved.

So the S-Class appeals to women, but I would argue that it appeals to men just as much and even for some of the same reasons.

The GT350 is Back!

2016 Ford Shelby GT350. Photos courtesy of Ford.

The Shelby GT350 will return to the Mustang lineup in 2016, after a long hiatus. Most young people know about the earth-shattering GT500, but this muscle car is completely different. Instead of being designed to tear down drag strips, the GT350 is made for carving through tight turns.

Ford’s engineers have said that they looked at the whole car and how the different systems worked when they tuned everything. In other words, the GT30 is all about balance and control, not about kicking up acrid plumes of smoke from the rear tires.

The car’s design takes full advantage of the Mustang’s new independent rear suspension. The geometry of the suspension in both the front and rear of the car should hold up, even when the driver throws the GT350 around right turns, thanks to a chassis that features a 28 percent increase of torsional stiffness.

Then there’s the engine, which features a strange, even exotic V-8 growl. That’s tanks to a flat-plane crankshaft, which is what you find in cars like Ferraris.  It allows for the firing order of the cylinders to switch back and forth between the two banks, which results in less overlap of exhaust pressure pulses. Thanks to a peak output of over 500 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque, the 5.2-liter V-8 is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine to ever be used in a production Ford.

Other features of the car, like the big brakes and six-piston calipers, are also designed for rigorous track use. Even though the Mustang Boss 302 is no longer in production, we are getting something that will be even better.

Dangerous River Crossings

River crossings can be pretty dangerous, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing. I’ve crossed countless rivers in vehicles, but fortunately none of those instances involved some reckless moron who doesn’t understand the basic tenets of physics.

No matter how big a vehicle is, it can become a boat in a river if the current is strong enough. This includes buses that are loaded full of people. If you see white caps in the water, it’s too strong and you should find a safer spot to cross. Case in point:

You can read about the details of this unfortunate accident by clicking here, but basically people were hurt and two little girls died.

Locally, there was a family that several years ago tried to cross a raging river after a storm. The water was so bad that the father told everyone to unbelt before he attempted the crossing, just in case they needed to swim. The mom and several of the kids drowned. The takeaway: if you think a river crossing is dangerous, don’t even try it.

Before you cross a river, you need to have a plan. Usually, it’s best to cross where others have plenty of times before, that way you don’t get in over your head, literally. Test out the depth of the river, check out what the bed is made of (if possible) and try to see if there is a powerful undercurrent. Plan out which way you will go in the water, and exactly where you will exit on the other side. This is why:

Once you’re in the water, you need to just drive. If the water is high enough to reach your grille or even the hood, you have to drive fast enough to push out a wake that is about three feet ahead of the SUV. When you exit, you need to do the same thing as climbing a steep hill, with a good run up to the base, then letting off the throttle a little as you crest so you don’t launch into the air.

The First Porsche – The Porsche 64

Most auto connoisseurs consider the Porsche 64 which is also sometimes known as the VW Aerocoupe, Type 64 and Type 64K10 as being the first automobile made by Porsche. It was manufactured mainly from parts from the Model 64 VW Beetle and that is where the model number comes from. The Porsche 64’s flat-four engine produced fifty b.h.p. and gave the vehicle a top speed of 160 km/h. The body was designed by Porsche Burro after wind tunnel tests made for the Type 114, a V10 racer that never saw the light of day as a production car. Dr. Porsche planned to enter the roadster in the 1939 Berlin to Rome race event. The bodywork specialist company Reutter made three cars from shaped aluminum. Out of the three, one was totaled in the early years of World War II by a VW bureaucrat. The two cars that remained were used by the exclusively by the Porsche family.

Towards the end of World War Two, they put one of the vehicles in storage and used the other one. American troops discovered the one put in storage in May 1945, cut the top of it off and took it joyriding for a few weeks until the engine oil went and it was junked. Farina restored the only remaining Porsche 64 in 1947, as it was owned and driven by Ferry Porsche. In 1949, the Austrian racer Otto Matte bought the car and raced it, winning the Alpine Rally in 1950 in it.

Now nearly a hundred years after its founder started designing automobiles, Porsche is still popular, the result of offering a cure for a mid-life crisis similar to owning a Harley – Davidson motorcycle. Porsche’s lineup now features four model lines: the incredibly sexy and popular Boxster, the enduring 911 models, the relatively new Cayenne SUV, and the stunningly opulent Carrera GT, and if you can’t afford their cars, Porsche also offers watches, luggage, and tennis rackets bearing its name.

The company is still controlled by descendants of the founding family and it has enlarged its area by offering consulting services to other industries not only on the automotive industry but in furniture, construction, and engineering as well.

Form its early years of operating in the red, Porsche has evolved into a winner as one of the most profitable car makers on the planet while many other automakers are having to lay off workers, offer cash incentives, and strategize how to deal with the upcoming Chinese market. Porsche consistently releases startling new products and has quadrupled annual vehicle sales in less than ten years in spite of costs and the risks involved.

The most recent additions of the Boxster and Cayenne are doing very well and continue to be examples of the popularity of Porsche as the company continues to move forward.

Why Online Car Sales is Better than The Auto Dealer

Auto Dealers are finding selling their vehicles online hit or miss at best. Auto Trader and Ebay along with Smart Auction from General Motors are offering some of the best options to an Auto Dealer. Why is it that less than 10% of the vehicles listed online are actually selling? There are plenty of companies offering solutions but none seem to be working on a consistent basis. What about the dealer with an internet department? Is he any more successful?

Internet selling has gotten to be big business for the local Auto Dealer. Large or small dealers have different needs but the same outcome. Selling successfully online is a necessary addition to their bottom line and overall sales numbers. Each and every dealer, no matter the size, needs to be able to sell effectively online.

The time and money that selling online costs the Auto Dealer can be a lot less than classic print, radio and television advertising. So why has the local dealer stayed away from selling online? Most are intimidated by a market that is selling less than 10% of the vehicles that are listed in a medium they do not understand.

Selling online needs an expertise that most dealers lack. Some dealers lack the size to handle supporting an internet department. There are companies out there that are offering a total solution to online sales. These companies can handle an effective, profitable internet department for each and every dealer, no matter the size.

A comprehensive internet strategy is needed to sell effectively online. A good consulting firm that brings expertise in auto sales, internet sales and technical computer skills. All of these skills are needed by the dealership to handle selling online effectively. When a dealer sells online effectively, profits and sales soar.

Accomplishing a comprehensive plan to sell online is being offered by very few companies in today’s market. What a dealer needs to look for is a consulting firm that is grounded in all three areas of online sales. Consulting firms that have Auto dealer experience, online sales experience and technical experience with building the software to accomplish an ease to selling online are necessary to meet the goal for the average dealer. These areas all need to be addressed to make a dealer self sufficient in online sales.

Dealers have found that keeping inventory fresh and up to date on their websites can be time consuming and not a profitable endeavor. Profitability in today’s market is essential to a dealer whether small or large. Online solutions are costly and hard to come by, but essential to a dealership.

Is there a solution? Hiring a company with auto experience, internet experience and technical experience is what the smart dealers are doing. Sell through ratios of these companies need to be checked and a company chosen that will effectively sell vehicles time and time again. There is a secret to selling online that major dealers and small dealers alike have found. To sell effectively online you need the right consulting firm to handle the details, leaving dealership personnel free to handle the sales. Sales are a given when the right online sales consulting firm is left to handle the management of online sales strategies. Hiring the right consulting firm for your online sales is essential to successfully selling online. These companies can accomplish positive online sales results more cost effectively than the local Auto Dealer.

#ChevyGuy Has Given the Colorado and Chevy Brand a Ton of Free Publicity

2015 Chevrolet Colorado. Image courtesy of GM.

If you missed the World Series last night, you also missed out on a true gem when Chevrolet representative Rikk Wilde presented the MVP with a new Colorado pickup. The poor guy stammers through a mini speech/sales pitch, referencing some notes that must have not been very helpful. The result is actually pretty painful to watch:

As a result, Chevy is getting tons of free publicity. Two hashtags are trending on Twitter right now, #ChevyGuy and #TechnologyAndStuff, because the presentation was just so hilariously awkward.

Someone at GM has a pretty good sense of humor, because’s page for the Colorado uses the #TechnologyAndStuff hashtag. Instead of ducking out in embarrassment at its representative’s big blunder in front of a national audience, the car company is going with the moment and will probably sell a bunch of Colorados as a result. Remember the Dodge Ron Burgundy commercials that made Durango sales surge?

In this modern age of slick marketing campaigns like the Matthew McConaughey Lincoln commercials, most consumers see a company being real as a welcome breath of fresh air. Good move, GM, good move.

Ford Transit to Get EcoBoost V-6 in 2013

Autogearhead: In December, it became official: Ford would replace the E-Series with a version of its new generation global Transit van under Ford’s “One Ford” program. Details were scarce at the time, but Ford is finally starting to dish about the new Transit, and just announced that the van will receive Ford’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 found under the hood of numerous Blue Oval offerings.

The announcement was made at the National Truck Equipment Association Work Truck show in Indianapolis. Ford divulged just one specific detail on the Transit EcoBoost: It will be a rear-drive model. We don’t yet know if all-wheel drive will be an option.

We do know that the U.S.-spec Transit is likely to be called the T-Series. It will be built at Ford’s Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri, with production starting later this year. Though we don’t know the transmission options or power specs for the Transit’s EcoBoost, it is unlikely to deviate much from the F-150’s, which has become a popular option for Ford truck buyers.

In the F-150, the engine is paired to a six-speed automatic good for 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Exterior styling will bear elements of Ford’s “kinetic design” language, and shouldn’t be wildly different from that of the Ford Tourneo Custom Concept Ford is unveiling at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

Flood Driving Safety Tips

Autogearhead: Flooded roadSome areas are more prone to flooding than others. This problem is set to increase in the UK with the onset of global warming.
Floods can occur when rivers burst their banks, after a period of heavy rainfall. Large volumes of water can cause flash-floods, or floods in urban areas where the sewers and drains can’t cope and there is nowhere for the water to soak away.
As with all driving emergencies prevention is better than cure; in the case of flooding this means watching the weather forecasts before you set out on a journey, if flooding is widespread you might be better off cancelling trips that are not absolutely necessary.

If you are in a flood affected area consider moving your car to a place of safety when you first hear the warnings, but also be aware that if flooding has started moving your vehicle could pose a serious risk – never underestimate the dangers of flood water.

Eight things to think about when driving through floods.

  1. Flash floods can come rapidly and unexpectedly. In the UK they are usually cause when rivers break their banks.
  2. You may not have warning that a flash flood is approaching.
  3.  Never attempt to drive through a flood that you couldn’t walk through and be aware that water hides dips in the road. Worse still, there may be no road at all under the water. Flooding can wash away the entire road surface and a significant amount of ground beneath.
  4. Slow down into waterJust six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars; this depth can cause loss of control or possible stalling as water is sucked into the exhaust or washes into the air intake.
  5. If negotiating a flooded section of road, drive in the middle where the water will be at its shallowest.
  6. Consider other drivers – pass through flooded sections one car at a time, don’t drive through water against approaching vehicles.
  7. Many cars will start to float in as little as one foot of water – this can be extremely dangerous because as the wheels lose grip, you lose control.
  8. Two feet of flowing water can sweep away most vehicles — including large four-wheel drive cars. Don’t try driving through fast-moving water, for example approaching a flooded bridge – your car could easily be swept away.

Negotiating floods

Driving at speed into water that is more than about 15 centimetres deep can have dramatic effects – it could almost feel like driving into a brick wall with loss of control. This is why it’s especially important to watch your speed on roads where there might be unexpected patches of water (perhaps hidden by a bend or a dip in the road).

I caught the cars on the right on camera driving into about six centimetres of standing water at around 25mph – an instant after this picture was taken the red car lost control, luckily an accident was avoided. perhaps next time the driver might not be so lucky. In 15 minutes I saw several near misses at the same spot.

Use a low gearIf you intend to drive through a flooded section of road, your first task is to check the depth of the water. In normal vehicles you should never attempt to drive through water that is more than about 25 centimetres deep (or up to the centre of your wheels).

It’s also worth checking where the air intake is on your engine. If water is sucked into the engine it will stall, but worse than this, it can cause severe damage that will require the engine to be stripped down in order to bring it back to life. Do not try to restart an engine that has sucked in water – the plugs or injectors should first be removed to allow the water to be expelled.

Some four-wheel-drive vehicles are equipped with high level air intakes allowing them to be driven through water several feet deep, however, you can say goodbye to your deep pile carpet and Gucci Sneakers if you attempt this! And as mentioned above – even 4×4 vehicles can be washed away in flowing water. If the water is fast-moving – even 30 centimetres depth of fast-moving water could wash your car off the road.

Where possible flooded roads are best negotiated by one vehicle at a time. wait for approaching vehicles to clear the water before you start to drive through.

Using first or second gear (L or 1 in an automatic) drive slowly to avoid creating a large ‘bow wave’ (a small wave can be helpful but too much and the water can wash back into the engine). Slipping the clutch and revving the engine will also help to keep the exhaust clear and keep the engine running if water splashes onto the electrics. In an automatic keep your foot on the gas in the lowest held gear and use the brake to control your speed (and hope for the best!).

Try your brakesIn some cases a stalled engine can result in water being sucked back through the exhaust into the cylinders – this can cause extensive and expensive damage. Do not change gear because this can also cause water to be sucked back through the exhaust (due to the change in engine speed and manifold depression).

Another potential cause of damage in floods is a cracked catalytic converter (‘cat’). The ‘cat’ is part of the exhaust system and works at high temperatures; if it comes into contact with very cold water there is a possibility that the rapid contraction of the metal could crack the welded sides – OK if you have plenty of money to replace it!

If your wheels start to lose grip partway through a flooded section it could be that the car is trying to float. To counter this, open a door and allow some water into the car, this will weigh it down, enabling the tyres to grip again – it’s probably best to get a passenger to do this so that you can continue revving your engine and slipping the clutch.

After driving through a flooded section of road or a ford across a river, test your brakes (whilst still driving slowly) and be prepared to drive them off by touching the brake pedal very lightly with your left foot (practice this on an empty stretch of road next time you go out driving to discover what very lightly means!).

If your car has been abandoned and has stood in deep water for a long period (an hour or more) it’s worth getting a mechanic to look at it before you try and start it. Alternatively, if you know a little about engines and have the appropriate tools, remove the spark plugs (or injectors) and turn the engine over to expel any water from the cylinders before trying to start the engine.

Stay calm – stay safe!

Truck Tire Rockets Mechanic Through the Air

We’ve seen all sorts of crazy Russian dashcam videos, but this is something completely unique. The following video also shows the hazards one can face when working on cars without taking the necessary precautions.

This guys is filling up a truck tire, but obviously he isn’t watching the pressure too closely. It is filled far too much and explodes, sending the guy flying through the air. Since he’s moving somewhat at the end, hopefully he was able to fully recover from the incident.

Winter Tire FAQs

AutoGearhead: Gee… it’s getting cold outside!! I will try to warm your room with this article 🙂 In previous article, we have talk about winter driving safety tips, now we’ll talk about winter tires. Winter tires have a conception of the aggressive tread that gives a better grip while throwing the snow and slush, which gives more stability during braking and better management of vehicles. The compound of winter tires is relatively mild.
The rubber of all-season tire begins to lose elasticity and harden at temperatures around -8 ° C to -10 ° C, reducing traction. At -15 ° C, this type of tires have lost its elasticity, while a winter tire will harden to about -40 ° C – it retains its elasticity for a very long time.

Taken from, Aaron Gold has shared information about winter tires frequently asked questions.

Q: What makes snow tires different from regular tires?

A: Snow tires (also known as winter tires) have tread patterns specifically designed to dig down and bite into snow and ice, plus they are made from softer rubber compounds that retain their flexibility in cold weather, allowing the tire to better conform to the surface of the road. (Regular tires tend to get hard and brittle in cold temperatures.) As a result, winter tires keep a better grip on snowy and icy surfaces than regular all-season or summer tires. Grip is critical. Not just to avoid getting stuck, but to ensure that the car can stop and steer. Life-saving safety technologies such as antilock brakes, electronic stability control and all-wheel-drive cannot do their jobs if the tires can’t maintain their grip on the road surface.

Q: My car has all-season tires. Aren’t those good enough?

A: Not really, no.  All-season (also known as all-weather) tires are designed to cope with all sorts of conditions, including dry roads and rain, but are not optimized for any one condition. They are generally made from harder materials that don’t conform to the road surface as well in low temperatures. Think of all-season tires as sneakers and snow tires as heavy-duty snow boots. It is possible to walk down a snowy, icy sidewalk wearing sneakers — but it’s a lot easier and safer to do it with proper snow boots.

Q: Can I put snow tires on just the drive wheels of my car?

A: Putting just two snow tires on your car is a bad idea. If you have a front-wheel-drive car and put snow tires on the front only, the back wheels won’t have anywhere near as much grip as the front wheels. This will make the car much more likely to spin out while braking or cornering. Likewise, if you put snow tires on the just back wheels of a rear-wheel-drive car, the wheels that do the steering won’t grip as well as those that provide the power, so the car may not respond when the steering wheel is turned — it will simply plow straight ahead. Always install snow tires as a full set of four.

Q: Can I leave my snow tires on all year?

A: You can, but it’s not a good idea. Snow tires tend to be noisier, plus the softer compounds from which they are made means they will wear out faster, especially in warm weather. Wear is critical, because winter tires rely on their deep tread to dig into snow and ice. As soon as the snow is gone for good, remove your snow tires and reinstall your regular tires. The good news: Since you’re savvy enough to use snow tires, you don’t need to stick with the all-season tires that came with your car for the rest of the year — you can choose a “summer” tire that will provide better handling, better traction in the rain, or a smoother, quieter ride.

Q: Unmounting one set of tires and mounting another at the beginning and end of winter is a pain. Is there an easier way?

A: Yes! Buy an extra set of wheels from a salvage yard and use those for your snow tires. The wheels don’t have to be the exact same design, so long as they are the same diameter and have the same bolt pattern as your car’s original wheels. If you’ve purchased aftermarket wheels, keep the stock wheels and use those for your snow tires. That way, when it comes time to change from summer tires to snow tires, all you have to do is have the wheels changed — a quick and inexpensive job.

This video shows just how much difference they can make: up to 50% reduced braking distance on snow. Winter tyres are made with a higher percentage of natural rubber meaning they remain more supple at temperatures below 7º C.

By purchasing and installing winter tires, you have to remember the following:

  1. Install four winter tires – To help maintain control and stability of the vehicle in icy conditions, always use a set of four winter tires.
  2. Mixing tires with different models of internal structure and size affect the stability of the vehicle and should be avoided.
  3. As a tire wears, traction is reduced by the snow. The tires are used near the wear indicators have reduced traction and should not be used on roads with snow or in severe snow conditions.
  4. The correct air pressure for longer tread life, improves safety and reduces fuel consumption – all vital factors in saving energy and protecting the environment. Tire pressure decreases as the temperature drops, so be sure to check the pressure at least once a month when the tires are cold, preferably after the car has been out all night. (*)

Gas Scooters

One of the reasons for the surge of popularity is because gas scooters have a reputation of being easy on the wallet. This is a well-deserved reputation as they get approximately fifty to seventy miles per gallon. If you know a scooter owner, you will undoubtedly hear stories of how infrequently they have to fill up the gas tank.

Other reasons for the gas scooters being so popular are because of the cost. Depending on where they are purchased, they are only from about $800 to $6,000. This price is very attractive to people who cannot afford a car or even a motorcycle. They can reach acceptable speeds to keep up with traffic and still get great gas mileage.

Women are a big part of the gas scooter revolution. The lightweight and maneuverability make them a very real option to getting on a motorcycle. But women are not the only ones who use them for this reason. Smaller men or those who cannot comfortably get on to or off of a motorcycle will find this a viable option. Or, if the typical motorcycle to wide to sit on for a long time, the scooter is usually narrower and will make for a more comfortable ride.

Ease of parking is another benefit to scooters. It is so compact, that parking, even tight parallel parking, is no problem for the rider of a scooter.

Those other entire reasons aside, the gas scooter is just plain fun. In very recent memory, scooters have become more of a trend in some areas than necessity. Even motorcycle groups have jumped on the bandwagon, so to speak, and have started offering safety courses and comparing models. Freedom and convince are two of the traits enjoyed by scooter owners.

Major, well-known brands like Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda manufacture the bulk of the scooters on the road today. Piaggio is also a well-known name that owns Vespa and Aprilia. These are the ones you will see on surface streets in the cities.

As we look into the future, it is easy to see that we will be sharing the road with scooters, just as we do motorcycles today. They are easy on the wallet as well as on gas. They have a wonderful niche that will just keep getting bigger as time goes on. This is definitely a mode of transportation that will keep growing in popularity.

Many people are turning to gas scooters as a means of transportation due to the rise in fuel prices. They are lightweight and very maneuverable, which makes them attractive to women and people with physical limitations. They are very cost effective and trendy.

Understanding Crash Test

Ford Fusion Crash Test

AutoGearhead: You know why cars have been getting safer? Its because of a well-established testing program. In this article, you’ll know about automotive crash testing. You’ll be amazed at how much thought and preparation goes into making sure that safe cars are on the roads. A crash test is a form of destructive testing usually performed in order to ensure safe design standards in crashworthiness and crash compatibility for various modes of transportation or related systems and components.

Types of Crash Test

  • Frontal-impact tests: which is what most people initially think of when asked about a crash test. These are usually impacts upon a solid concrete wall at a specified speed, but can also be vehicle-vehicle tests. SUVs have been singled out in these tests for a while, due to the high ride-height that they often have.
  • Offset tests: in which only part of the front of the car impacts with a barrier (vehicle). These are important, as impact forces (approximately) remain the same as with a frontal impact test, but a smaller fraction of the car is required to absorb all of the force. These tests are often realized by cars turning into oncoming traffic. This type of testing is done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), EuroNCAP and Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
  • Side-impact tests: these forms of accidents have a very significant likelihood of fatality, as cars do not have a significant crumple zone to absorb the impact forces before an occupant is injured.
  • Roll-over tests: which tests a car’s ability (specifically the pillars holding the roof) to support itself in a dynamic impact. More recently dynamic rollover tests have been proposed as opposed to static crush testing.
  • Roadside hardware crash tests: are used to ensure crash barriers and crash cushions will protect vehicle occupants from roadside hazards, and also to ensure that guard rails, sign posts, light poles and similar appurtenances do not pose an undue hazard to vehicle occupants.
  • Old versus new: Often an old and big car against a small and new car, or two different generations of the same car model. These tests are performed to show the advancements in crashworthiness.
  • Computer model: Because of the cost of full-scale crash tests, engineers often run many simulated crash tests using computer models to refine their vehicle or barrier designs before conducting live tests.

Crash Test Major providers

  1. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States, specifically the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) and New Car Assessment Program (NCAP)
  2. European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP)
  3. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States
  4. Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP)
  5. Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC) in Germany
  6. Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP)
  7. China New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP)

Euro NCAP, Peugeot 3008 Crash Test: Frontal Impact takes place at 64 Km/h, 40% of the width of the car striking a deformable barrier. In the side impact, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver’s door at 50 km/h. In the pole test, the car tested is propelled sideways at 29km/h into a rigid pole.

Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake!

2015 Mercedes CLA 45 AMG, Photos courtesy of Daimler.

Mercedes is continuing to generate an insane amount of new models as it quests to take over the whole world. This time the company has developed a shooting brake version of the CLA-Class, which if you don’t know is the new entry-level offering that’s supposed to draw in Millennials who have a fat trust fund.

There is a hot CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake, which is a modified version that is essentially just like the CLA 45 AMG four-door coupe. That’s not all a bad thing, because it’s great that AMG can squeeze 360 horsepower from a little 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine.

The setup means you can do 0 to 60 in under 5 seconds while also carrying quite a few groceries home. If that isn’t sexy, then what is?

Most Americans have little idea what a shooting brake is. We in general don’t like wagons here, myself being one of the few exceptions, which is why this car won’t be sold stateside. A shooting brake is a three-door wagon. Since the CLA is technically called a four-door coupe, it mimics the look of a shooting brake, even if it does have two extra doors that make it more practical.

Is this car another sign of how out-of-control Mercedes has become when it comes to making too many niche vehicles? Is this the ultimate sleeper car, or is it just a wagon version of a mediocre car that doesn’t live up to Mercedes’ standards of quality? Drop a comment and let me know what you think.

Chevrolet Looks to Make New Volt Easier to Charge

2016 Chevrolet Volt. Photos courtesy of GM.

Chevy’s been pretty tight-lipped about the 2016 Volt, which launches a new generation of the controversial range-extended electric car. A few details have come out officially, and among what we know now is that there will be some interesting features that will making charging the car easier.

One complaint that I’ve heard about plug-ins is it’s kind of a pain to see if they are successfully charging. How you can tell depends on the model, but with the new Volt there will be a light at the top of the instrument panel that will blink when the car first starts charging. If that’s not enough, the car will also make a distinct sound to indicate that charging has commenced.

People will be able to option for a glowing ring around the charging port that will flash to show the charge level of the car. That ring also will help people plug in when there is little to no light, just in case.

One of the coolest features that Chevy has revealed involves the car using GPS to automatically follow certain charging specifications when it is plugged in at home. Owners can set a time of day (or night) that the car should begin charging, or just specify a time that the car needs to be fully charged and ready to go. They can even load their utility provider’s rate schedule and have the car start charging when electricity is cheapest.

These types of changes are necessary. The Volt has never risen to even near the sales levels the GM brass originally predicted. Everyone can point fingers about why, but in the end the car isn’t satisfying the needs of the public well enough. Innovations like these, I believe, are a step in the right direction. Charging a car should be easy and free of hassle, because not everyone wants to fiddle with their vehicle on a daily basis. Most people want to get in it when they need to be somewhere and just get there.

Swimming With 9 Amphibious Vehicles

Credit World War II for making cars that can swim. And though the largest numbers of amphibian passenger cars were made way back in the 1960s, the prospect of a car that can navigate waterways like a boat continues to attract inventors.

Even though less than 5000 German-designed Amphicars were built, you can still see them. Most came to America and many are still in use.

The Amphicar was built for five years starting in 1961; it was a compact convertible with a steel unibody and double seals on the doors. Using a 1.2-liter four-cylinder Triumph engine mounted in the rear, it drove the rear wheels through a Porsche transaxle. A transfer case switched power to two 12-inch propellers when you entered the water. With 11 inches of ground clearance, entering a lake or river was easy, and the Amphicar would cruise at 8 knots. The front wheels served as rudders. Top speed on the highway for the 43-hp car was 70 mph.

To publicize the car, the company once drove it across the English Channel. Legend has it that President Lyndon Johnson liked to terrify joyriding houseguests by pretending that his car’s brakes had broken and driving the Amphicar into a lake.

Gibbs Aquada

Gibbs Aquada
Alan Gibbs of New Zealand commissioned British automaker Lotus in 1996 to undertake an engineering viability study for an amphibious car. Neil Jenkins, who helped build the Jaguar XJ220, contributed to the clever frame and body/hull design; he now runs Gibbs Sports Amphibians, which announced this year it is beginning to work on producing the Aquada.

The Gibbs will come with hydraulically retractable wheels on struts. A single 165-hp 2.5-liter Rover four-cylinder engine will power the rear wheels and also a jet pump drive for marine travel. That engine will get the 4000-pound plastic-hull aluminum-framed Aquada to 100 mph on land and 30 mph in the water. A prototype crossed the English Channel in 40 minutes in 2004.

VW Schwimmwagen

VW Schwimmwagen
VW Beetle creator Ferdinand Porsche produced the four-wheel-drive Kübelwagen for the German Army in WWII. He then made an amphibious version of it in 1941, followed by a smaller version of the first amphibious car called the Schwimmwagen. It was powered by a 1.2-liter air-cooled flat four, which also drove a single propeller. The amphibious car used the front wheels as rudders when in the water. On land, the propeller would swing up, disengaging it from the engine. The Schwimmwagen was heavy and slow but had good traction off-road.

U.S. Army DUKW

U.S. Army DUKW
GM built the DUKW, called Duck when it was produced, for the U.S. military in 1942. It was adapted from a troop-carrier truck. The awkward name came from GM’s official designations: D meant the 1942 model year, U stood for utility, K was GM’s code for front-drive, and W was the code for two rear axles.

The DUKW’s capacity was 5000 pounds or 25 soldiers. It’d do 50 mph on land or 5 mpg in the water. George Patton made the vehicle famous by using 1000 DUKWs to land in Sicily in 1943; 2000 participated in the D-Day landing in France in 1944.

In sum, GM built 21,000 Ducks. Today the amphibious cars are mostly seen giving aquatic tours. Milwaukeean Melvin H. Flath bought a surplus DUKW and charged 50 cents for tours in 1946; now tour companies in various cities use a couple hundred of the vehicles.

Terra Wind Motorhome

Terra Wind Motorhome
In September 2004, commercial pilot John Giljam built an amphibious motor home that cost $1.2 million and was 42 feet long. Powered by a rear-mounted 330-hp diesel engine, the all-aluminum bodied home on wheels uses two propellers and two rudders when it’s floating. It has two inflatable pontoons on its sides for stability but can travel on water without them. Giljam now builds other amphibious machines through a company called Cool Amphibious Manufacturers International, which also builds DUKW-type vehicles for tour companies.

Dobbertin Surface Orbiter

Dobbertin Surface Orbiter
Using a double-wall stainless-steel milk tank from the back of a truck, Rick Dobbertin from Cazenovia, N.Y., built an amphibious truck that he drove from Florida to South America via the Gulf of Mexico, and back to the U.S. on land in 1995. It took him four and a half years to build the craft, which is 32 feet long, 7.5 feet wide, 10 feet high, and weighs 9 tons fully loaded. Its GM diesel V-8 makes 250 hp and powers all six wheels. The “surface orbiter” has traveled 33,000 miles on land, 3,000 in the sea, and was sold in a 1999 divorce auction for $200,000.

Rinspeed Splash

Rinspeed Splash
Well-known Swiss sportscar tuning firm Rinspeed built an amphibious car in 2003 that can go 120 mph on land and 45 knots on water. Under 30 knots, the Rinspeed can cruise in water like a conventional boat. Above 30 knots, fold-down hydrofoils raise the car’s a lightweight carbon composite body shell 12 feet above the water. A single propeller lowers into water with the foils, and the wheels can lift out of the water.

Power comes from a 140-hp two-cylinder 750-cc engine running on natural gas. The vehicle’s total weight is just 1800 pounds.

Englishman Mike Ryan designed and built his first Land Rover-based SeaRoader amphibian in 30 days back in the 1980s. He’s built amphibious motorcycles, a Lamborghini-bodied amphibian, and his shop engineered the three floating cars featured on Top Gear in 2006.

The SeaRoader is Ryan’s first production amphibian, made with steel body panels. It sells for $42,000. The on-road propulsion comes from the Land Rover’s original 1.7-liter turbodiesel engine. In the water, a separate marine engine and output jet in the back can push the SeaRoader to 6 mph.

U.S. Army LARC

U.S. Army LARC
In 1952, the massive Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo amphibious vehicle, capable of carrying a 60-ton tank, made its maiden voyage in Washington state. Gross weight fully loaded: 319,000 pounds. One GMC 265-hp marine diesel engine powered each of the LARC-60’s nine-and-a-half foot tall Firestone tires. The same four engines were used to drive two propellers in the rear via a transfer transmission. The 17-foot tall, 63-foot long LARC can travel at 20 mph on land and 7 mph in the water.
Two smaller versions were also produced—one that could carry 5 tons and another that could carry 15 tons.
